History

The Irish Australian Chamber of Commerce (IACC) was established in the 1980s by a group of Irish businesspeople living in Australia. Their goal was to create a structured and supportive environment for their peers at local, national, and international levels. Gerry Higgins, the founding president of the Chamber, was a dedicated supporter throughout his life, regularly attending key events and contributing through his family business. Following his passing, his family remains actively involved with the Chamber, continuing his legacy.

Over the years, the Chamber has hosted prominent figures, including Australian Prime Ministers, State Premiers, Federal and State Ministers, Presidents of Ireland, the Taoiseach (the Irish Prime Minister), Irish Government Ministers, and trade missions to and from Ireland. Additionally, the Chamber has developed strong connections with Ireland’s Ambassadors to Australia as well as the European Union’s representation in Australia.

The operations and strategic planning of the Chamber are overseen by a Board of Directors and a CEO, ensuring its continued success and growth.
