About our Speaker:

Martin Pakula graduated with degrees in Economics and Law from Monash University, and whilst there he became a member of the Labor Party in 1987. After working as a solicitor, he joined the National Union of Workers in 1993, where he ultimately served as State Secretary and National Vice President. He was elected to the Legislative Council in 2006 and to the Legislative Assembly in 2013, serving as a Parliamentary Secretary in the Bracks Government and as a Minister in both the Brumby and Andrews Governments 

Over almost 10 years in Cabinet, Martin served in a variety of portfolios including Industrial Relations, Industry and Trade, Public Transport, Racing, Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Innovation and Business Precincts. Between 2014 and 2018, Martin was Attorney General of Victoria.

Since leaving politics at the 2022 State Election, Martin has taken up a number of Non Executive director roles. He serves on the Board of Helloworld Travel Ltd and is a Director of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. He has been Chair of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation since October 2023 and of Tourism North East since May 2025. Martin assumed the role of Chairperson of Crown Melbourne in July 2025.
