In his latest blog, our CEO looks ahead to the close of nominations for this year's Irish Australian Business Awards.
Following the success of the inaugural Irish Australian Business Awards in 2015, nominations are now open for the 2016 Awards with an added category of “Young Entrepreneur” which will recognise those rainmakers in our community and will complement the existing “Young Professional” category which will highlight the success of our young professionals making an impact in corporate life.
Once again, Sydney will host the National Final at a Gala Dinner at the Sofitel, on Friday 11th November and tickets for the Irish Australian business community’s night of nights are now on sale via irishchamber.com.au/events.
The aim of the Awards is to celebrate innovation and best practice in the Irish Australian business community through the assessment across six judged categories of businesses and professionals, who are nominated. A seventh people’s choice category will give you the opportunity to vote online for your favourite finalist.
The Awards provide a platform for Irish Australian professionals and those who do business with them, to share, to inspire and to recognise their many achievements.
Inviting nominations, Chamber CEO Barry Corr said “We were really pleased with the strength and depth of the entries for the 2015 Awards and competition to make it onto the list of Finalists was fierce.
Our judges had their work cut out to pick winners as we got deeper into the process and we expect it will be just as competitive this year.
We have added Fiona Bones from Google to our judging panel for 2016 and look forward to the perspective that she will bring to the process, again led by Chair of the panel, Bill Winter. The video submissions made by our Finalists last year proved really popular, particularly in the People’s Choice category where over 13,000 votes were cast, and we expect that our entrants will be putting even more effort into this powerful element for 2016.

Startup |
Less than 3 years in operation based on FYE16. Judges will be interested to hear about your motivations for starting the business and how you have grown and developed the business through the start-up phase. |

SME of the Year |
This category is for small businesses in any sector and at any level of turnover that have been operating their business for more than 3 years. |
|
Established Business |
This category is for businesses over five years old with a turnover greater than $10 million in any sector. |
|
Young Entrepreneur |
Under 40 at FYE16 and can be based anywhere in Australia. Must be a shareholder/director actively involved in the business. |
|
Young Professional |
Under 40 at FYE16 and can be based anywhere in Australia. Not a shareholder/director and must have their nomination endorsed by a senior member of their organisation. |
|
International Trader |
Trades between Ireland & Australia – import/export/both. The award winner here must demonstrate an international growth strategy that has achieved outstanding levels of sales, profit and market share improvement. |
|
People's Choice Award |
(This category will be open to finalists in the above six classifications.) Open class, voted on via the website, promoted during events and via social and traditional media. |
